Faux Wood   …

Faux Wood                                                  Lignum falsum

Wood has been an extremely important resource in our civilization’s progress. We have used it for every possible purpose. It has been applied as a practical construction material to build things like houses and infrastructure. It has been prized for its aesthetic qualities for use in high-end furniture, such as mahogany tables or cedar chests. Wood has always been a readily available resource in our region of the world, and has been so ingrained in our culture that we can’t give it up. Today, in favor of cheaper materials that are easier to produce, we choose linoleum floors and aluminum siding for our housing, and chipboard or plastic furniture. But they all can have that luxurious appearance of wood which keeps us connected to that feeling of ‘natural’ construction materials.
