Imitations – imitationem imitatio

ImageAn artificial scene from a real place is placed in a plastic or glass bubble.  Just add some water and snow, shove a plug in the bottom and you have a snow globe, one of the trademark trinkets of the holidays and a collectors item.  So what do you get when you take a real live tree, stick it in a plastic bubble and blow air in from outside using a fan so that the fake snow will swirl around?  You seem to get a life size snow globe but what you are really getting is an imitation of an imitation.  The original globe imitates the “real” tree in an artificial manner, but the life size globe has a “real” tree on display.  Yet somehow in translation having a real tree enclosed in an artificial atmosphere seems so wrong.
