Sinking Island insula no-mora
Something is happening in the South Pacific, numerous small island nations are slowly inundating with seawater and being wiped off the map. Is this a modern day Atlantis, or something more? Some argue it is the result of global warming, others suggest it is the convergence of the Australian and Pacific plates. However you look at it, there is a crisis in the works. The president of Kiribati has been addressing the issue for years. Building sea walls and moving the people to man-made islands are just a few of the options that have been discussed. Ultimately however, it is only a matter of time before the people of this small nation are forced to leave their homes forever. While it is not expected to be fully submerged until 2030, the seawater influx is already taking its toll, contaminating drinking water and rendering the landscape unsuitable to grow crops. Can technology and modern man save this nation? Or will it continue to sink into oblivion?
