hedge artThey’re everywhere, from the curb cut outside the local shopping center to the palace of Versailles: Hedges. Dating back as far as the idea of “property” itself, these shapely plants can be traced back to about 4-6 thousand years ago when they were cultivated and used as a sort of living wall to protect the crops of early man. Since then they have come a long way– the plants integration with our cultural needs has taken far from it’s previous self (a woody plant which had to be coaxed into shape, forming hard fences) and created a plant which, when properly maintained can take almost any shape imaginable. Be it a perfect box, a spire or as a family of elephants one thing is for sure: hedges are likely here to stay.
