Wooden Keyboard

Wooden Keyboard                                                                     Typus ligni

The desire to bring the natural into even our most technical products results in such things as wooden keyboards.  But why?  Does it make us feel better about our lives, mostly urban, usually far removed from “nature.”  Does a wooden keyboard relieve the angst that comes from knowing we’re now inexorably tied to technology? Use it pay paperless bills, to social network with friends without ever seeing them, to shop without ever setting a foot in a brick and mortar store.  The clickity clack of the wooden keys, converting our thoughts to binary, removing us further and further from the natural world all the while we so desperately want to believe we can preserve it in perfect, untouched chunks . . . On the other hand, it may merely be an aesthetic preference.
