Reclaiming old firewood and transforming it into art, artist Michael McGillis created the piece in 2006 for a Minnesota sculpture garden. The wood was painted purple as if to call out a new species of tree where the wood was varying shades of purple. It is an interesting piece in that it is dug into a trench and you go below grade to experience and walk through it. With prairie grasses surrounding you, it would seem naturalistic and as though it was meant to be there, maybe even by Mother Nature herself. It is a beautiful sculpture that begs you to interact with it, evoking all of the senses. (Well maybe not taste) It is definitely something I would want to experience.
